SELANGOR: Sarawak kept their winning momentum going with a thrilling 10-9 victory over hosts Selangor in the women’s water polo competition at SUKMA XXII today.
The hard-fought victory made it three wins from three for Sarawak in the round-robin competition, following their earlier victories over Penang and Federal Territories.
There was little to separate the two sides throughout the four periods, with both teams trading goals in a closely contested encounter at the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre.
Sarawak held their nerve when it mattered most, preserving their slender one-goal advantage as Selangor pushed hard for an equaliser in the final period.
The Sarawakians ultimately stood firm to secure another important victory and maintain their unbeaten run in the competition.
The result also continued the composure shown by Lau Kum Weng’s charges after they recovered from an early deficit to beat Federal Territories 19-6 in their previous match.
Sarawak will now look to complete their round-robin campaign on a winning note when they face Negeri Sembilan on Aug 16 (coming Sunday).
