SELANGOR: Sarawak is one win away from the women’s water polo gold medal after completing an unbeaten round-robin campaign with a commanding 20-11 victory over Negeri Sembilan at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) on Saturday (Aug 15) today.

The victory sets up a blockbuster final against hosts Selangor on Monday (Aug 17), with Sarawak aiming to complete a perfect campaign and capture the title.

Sarawak stamped its authority early at the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre, racing into an 11-3 lead by the second period before maintaining control despite Negeri Sembilan’s attempts to claw their way back.

Head coach Lau Kum Weng said the team would remain focused and not be distracted by the occasion when they take on Selangor again.

“We will do our best and give everything we have,” he said.

Lau also urged his players to concentrate on executing their game plan rather than the pressure surrounding the final.

The victory completed a flawless group-stage campaign for Sarawak, who previously defeated Penang 18-11, Federal Territories 19-6 and edged hosts Selangor 10-9.

Having already overcome Selangor once in the competition, Sarawak will now have the opportunity to do it again with the gold medal on the line.
