SELANGOR: Sarawak’s dream of reaching the women’s beach volleyball final at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) came to an end after a 2-0 defeat to Selangor in the semi-finals on Saturday (Aug 15) today.
Selangor A produced a composed display to defeat Sarawak A 21-13, 21-14 at the MBSA Beach Volleyball Courts in Section 19, Shah Alam.
The defeat ended Sarawak’s bid for gold, but the team remains in contention for a historic bronze medal when they face Perak A in the third-place playoff later on Saturday.
Head coach Lee Say Hou said his players had given everything despite the setback and urged them to regroup quickly for one final push.
“We gave our best, but we lost in the semi-finals.
“However, we still have the opportunity to win the bronze medal this afternoon. I hope the players can bounce back and give their best to secure the bronze,” he told TVS after the match.
Lee said the team would use the three-hour break before the bronze-medal match to recover physically after the morning’s semi-final.
He added that a bronze medal would carry special significance for the Sarawak women’s beach volleyball squad, which had worked hard to compete despite financial constraints.
In the other semi-final, Penang A booked their place in the final after defeating Perak A 2-0. – TVS
