SELANGOR: Sarawak’s Jorez Puang Yi Jun and Hii Seng Yan delivered a double podium finish in the men’s shot put at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), claiming silver and bronze respectively as Borneo swept all three medals on Sunday (Aug 16).

Jorez finished runner-up with a best throw of 14.94m, while Hii Seng secured bronze with 13.94m at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Stadium.

Sabah’s Earl Isaac Mitzler Fredolin claimed gold with a winning throw of 15.11m to complete an all-Borneo podium in the event.

Jorez improved steadily throughout the competition, opening with 14.31m before throwing 14.58m and 14.55m in his next two attempts. He followed with 14.93m and 14.08m before producing his best effort of 14.94m on his final throw to seal the silver medal.

Hii Seng also saved his best for last. After opening with 13.49m, he recorded 13.79m, 13.60m and 13.76m before producing a final-round throw of 13.94m to secure bronze.

The result added two more medals to Sarawak’s tally while marking a memorable day for Borneo athletes, who occupied every spot on the podium.

Sarawak’s Jonah Chang Rigan, who won the event at SUKMA Sarawak 2024, remains the Games record holder after his championship-winning throw of 17.66m two years ago remained untouched. – UKAS
