SELANGOR: Sarawak Cycling Association’s (SCA) President, Irawan Sudarsono, praised Afif Darwysh and Muhammad Danial Hakim after they delivered gold and bronze respectively for Sarawak in the men’s individual time trial at SUKMA XXII today.
Irawan congratulated both riders for their achievement, while acknowledging the effort and support from everyone involved in the SCA.
“Congratulations to Afif and Danial on their remarkable feat. Never easy, but they have made Sarawak incredibly proud. I am proud of their achievements as well,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
Afif produced a commanding ride over the 29.5km course at Persiaran Pantai Utara, Sepang, clocking 37 minutes 12.633 seconds to claim the gold medal.
He averaged 47.567km/h to finish 12.936 seconds ahead of Johor’s Muhammad Nazirul Aniq Abd Rahman, who took silver in 37:25.569.
Danial completed Sarawak’s double podium finish after stopping the clock at 37:39.644, finishing 27.011 seconds behind his winning teammate to secure bronze.
The result gave Sarawak two of the three medals on offer in the event, with all 22 riders who started completing the 29.5km course.
Irawan also stressed that the achievement was not solely down to the two riders, but was supported by the wider team, including Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS), Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and the whole Sarawak cycling community.
“It’s a team effort from everyone at SCA,SSC, MSNS and the whole Sarawak cycling community,” he said.
The result gives Sarawak another boost in its SUKMA XXII campaign, with Afif and Danial delivering a strong showing in the men’s individual time trial.
