SELANGOR: Sarawak fought its way onto the podium in a thrilling mixed 4x400m relay final, securing bronze with a time of 3:33.36 at SUKMA XXII today.
The quartet of Muhamad Irsyad Nabil Ismail, Theodosia Razak, Yusry Mohammad Saiffullah and Ormilla Octavia Codday Nyadau finished third in a closely contested race.
Johor claimed gold after clocking 3:31.45, setting a new meet record in the process.
Sabah finished second in 3:32.72, just 0.64 seconds ahead of Sarawak.
Sarawak’s 3:33.36 was also within two seconds of the new mark set by Johor, underlining the tight competition in the final.

The bronze gave Sarawak another podium finish in the athletics event, with the quartet holding off the remaining challengers to secure third place.
Johor’s record-breaking performance saw Muhammad Aiman Najmi Mohd Anuar, Rosnani Mahamad, Wills Harnessy Gindal and Nor Malisya Mohd Ishak take the top step of the podium.
Sabah’s silver-winning quartet comprised Ady Putra Aqasha Norahimee, Siti Norjahera Beliamor, Muhammad Khalil Helmi and Priscellona Grace Kifli@Hailairy.
