SELANGOR: Sarawak’s muaythai two-gold campaign remains alight after six of its seven fighters progressed to the second round on the opening day of competition at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) XXII on Wednesday (Aug 19).

Competing at KSL Esplanade, the successful fighters were Emylia Lynn Ghazali Zulfikar (women’s 45kg), Muhammad Syarul Fareez Jafar (men’s 51kg), Fatiha Hanum Abdul Hasrul (women’s 48kg), Mohammad Fitri Haqiem Abdullah Mohamad Nasir (men’s 57kg), Muhammad Nur Aiman Kamaruddin (men’s 60kg) and Hani Anissa Ismail (women’s 57kg).

Dropping out from the run was Malvince Chris Eddie Kuwing, who exited the men’s 67kg event after losing to his Perak opponent.

Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS) president Jumaat Ibrahim welcomed the strong opening-day showing.

“It is a positive start for those who won their respective bouts.

“We hope they can maintain the momentum in their upcoming matches,” he told Sarawak Tribune.

Eight more Sarawak fighters are scheduled to enter the ring on Thursday across various weight categories.

“We hope all of them can overcome their respective opponents. We also hope Sarawakians will continue to pray for the athletes as they pursue their campaign,” he said.
