SIMANGGANG: An 85-year-old man who was reported missing from his home in Spatak Undop yesterday (Aug 19), was found safe this morning, about 500 metres from his house.
Chee Kim Chin was found by villagers at around 8am after a search operation involving firefighters, police and Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel.
Rescuers immediately moved to the scene after being informed that Chee had been found in the forest.
He was found conscious but weak and was carried out by rescuers using a stretcher before being taken back to his home.
Chee was later transported to Sri Aman Hospital at around 8.55am for further treatment.
The search-and-rescue (SAR) operation was officially called off by police at 9am.
Chee, who has high blood pressure and hearing difficulties, was reported missing after his daughter returned home at around 6.30am yesterday to pick him up but could not find him.
His daughter searched the surrounding area and checked with neighbours before lodging a police report after failing to locate her father.
A total of 11 firefighters, five policemen and 10 APM members were involved in the operation.
