KOTA SAMARAHAN: The public has been urged to beware of suspicious QR codes and links circulating on social media offering free registration for the Stakan National Day Night Run on Aug 30.
Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Abang Ismawi Abang Ali said the council had detected a Facebook post claiming that the run was free and directing members of the public to register by scanning a QR code.
He said the offer was not an official registration channel and warned that those who followed unverified links or QR codes could risk having their personal information misused.
“We are concerned that members of the public could fall victim to scams and that their phone numbers or other personal information could be compromised,” he said during a press conference on the Stakan Unity Carnival 2026 at the MPKS Meeting Room here today.
Abang Ismawi advised the public not to scan QR codes or click on links shared through social media unless their source could be verified.
He said those interested in participating should register through the official JomRun platform instead.
The Stakan National Day Night Run, which will be held on Aug 30, is the highlight of the Stakan Unity Carnival 2026 and will be held ahead of the National Day celebrations on Aug 31.
The 5km category is priced at RM35 for super early-bird registration, RM45 for early registration and RM55 at the normal rate.
