KUCHING: More than 87,300 primary school students nationwide have benefited from Magnum Foundation’s ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ (ICSCN) programme since 2012, with over 16,560 receiving fully sponsored prescription spectacles.
The long-running programme aims to improve eye health among children aged seven to 12, particularly those from underserved communities, by providing comprehensive eye screenings and prescription spectacles where required.
This year, the programme continued its nationwide rollout in Sarawak, with Magnum Foundation and the East Malaysia MagnumCares Team travelling more than 130 kilometres over three days to bring eye screening services directly to students in surrounding communities.

Several students were found to have previously undetected vision problems during the screenings, allowing them to receive timely intervention before poor eyesight further affected their learning and daily activities.
The initiative also addressed a gap highlighted by teachers, who said some students had undergone vision screenings through other programmes but had not received corrective spectacles.
Through its comprehensive approach, from screening and identification to the provision of fully sponsored spectacles, the foundation aims to ensure students receive the vision care they need to learn with greater confidence.
Magnum Foundation Trustee Krian Upatkoon said the programme was aimed at giving every child an equal opportunity to learn, grow and thrive, adding that something as simple as a pair of spectacles could make a meaningful difference to a child’s confidence, academic performance and quality of life.
“As the programme continues its journey across Malaysia, Magnum Foundation remains committed to reaching more underserved communities and ensuring children who need vision care receive it, regardless of their circumstances,” he said.
The programme supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 4: Quality Education.
