SARIKEI: A total of 125 contingents comprising 6,219 participants are expected to take part in the 2026 Sarawak-level Maulidur Rasul celebration here on Aug 24 and 25.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Hall and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, said the final number of participants would be adjusted according to the capacity of the venue to ensure the event runs smoothly and comfortably.

“The number of participants will be further adjusted according to the venue capacity to ensure the celebration proceeds in a more orderly manner.”

He said this at a press conference after the final meeting of the celebration committee at the Sarikei Division Sarawak Government Administrative Centre here on Wednesday (Aug. 19).

Dr Abdul Rahman said the assembly on August 25 had been moved from the Sarikei Sports Complex to Dewan Sentral Sarikei as a precautionary measure, taking into account the safety, health and comfort of participants.

“The procession this year is still subject to prevailing conditions. An assembly will be held as an alternative if the weather and air quality conditions do not permit it, with safety as the priority,” he added.

He said the Thanksgiving and Zikir Ceremony would be held at Masjid Al-Muttaqin on August 24 while the assembly would take place at Dewan Sentral Sarikei the following day.

He added that participating contingents would be asked to limit their numbers due to the smaller capacity of the new venue.

This year’s celebration will also feature various religious and community programmes, including the Zikir Marhaban Competition at Masjid Al-Muttaqin on August 22 and the Choral Speaking Competition throughout Rabiulawal.

The Islamic Affairs Prime Forum will be held at Masjid Nurul Hidayah, Julau on Aug 25 while Maulidur Rasul talks and forums will be held at mosques and suraus throughout Sarawak during the month.
