SELANGOR: Sarawak rolled to redemption, upgrading their bronze from Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024 to gold in the men’s team tenpin bowling event at Sunway Megalanes.
The Sarawak quintet of Eldred Kho Yek Zhen, Muhammad Qaisah Rayyan Mohamad Sabri, Muhammad Akmal Hakim Rushdi, Ethan Damien Goh Chen Ming and individual gold medallist Muhammad Isyraq Iqbal Ramadhan amassed 6,092 pinfalls to finish top of the standings last night (Aug 21).
Sarawak laid the foundation for victory in the opening block, knocking down 3,073 pins before adding another 3,019 from the final three games to seal the gold.
The triumph marked a significant improvement from the bronze medal secured at the 2024 Games in Sarawak, with the team showing greater consistency when it mattered most.
Johor had to settle for silver after finishing with 5,917 pinfalls, 175 behind Sarawak.
The Johor team comprised Aliff Haiqal Sahrul, Ahmad Farish Danial Mohd Ezaufai, Norhaj Nasrullah Norhafiz, Airel Amri Sulaimi and Muhammad Addin Sahren.
Hosts Selangor completed the podium with bronze after registering 5,890 pinfalls.
The battle for third was particularly tight, with Selangor finishing just four pins ahead of defending champions Pulau Pinang, who ended fourth on 5,886 pinfalls.
The gold added another chapter to Sarawak’s strong bowling campaign at the Games, with Isyraq having earlier claimed the men’s individual title.
