KUCHING: Empowering women begins with strengthening families and ensuring young people understand the support available to them, said JCI Kuching Local President, Mark Teo, during the launch of Pink Wings Protection 2026: EmpowerHER & Family Carnival at Plaza Merdeka, on Saturday.
The two-day carnival brings together government agencies, community organisations and families to raise awareness of public services, family support initiatives and health and social benefits, particularly for young couples and first-time families.

“It is my great pleasure to welcome everyone to Pink Wings Protection 2026. Today is not just about having fun, it is about empowering women, strengthening families and building a stronger community,” he said in his welcoming address.
Teo stressed that the event goes beyond women’s empowerment, describing it as a platform for educating the wider community, especially young adults who are beginning their family journey.
“This is a very important initiative because we want young people to know the benefits and assistance available to them. Many are just starting a family, and this is an opportunity for them to learn what support they can receive from the government.”
The carnival has recorded 2,300 registrations, with organisers expecting about 700 visitors over the two-day programme through its exhibitions, health and family activities, educational booths and community engagement initiatives.
Expressing his appreciation for the encouraging response, he thanked partners, sponsors and volunteers for making the event possible.
“Women play an important role in our families and society. When we support and empower women, we are also creating a better future for our children and our community.”
The event also reflects JCI Kuching’s 2026 theme, ‘Beyond Legacy’, which focuses on creating meaningful and lasting impact for future generations.
“Our responsibility is not only to make an impact today, but to create something meaningful for the next generation. Let’s come together, learn something new and, most importantly, support one another,” he said.
Pink Wings Protection 2026 features family-friendly activities, educational exhibitions and information booths aimed at promoting women’s empowerment, family wellbeing and greater public awareness of community and government support services.
