KUCHING: Between serves, volleys and the occasional missed return, the conversation rarely stopped at JCI Kuching’s Pickleball Rave.

Held at PicklePro in Tabuan Laru on Sunday (Aug 23), the event placed the social character of pickleball at the centre of an evening that brought players, creators and community members onto the same courts.

Players moved between friendly matches and courtside conversations, making the gathering as much a social occasion as a sporting one.

More than 60 participants attended, including Kuching-based key opinion leaders, influencers and content creators.

Their involvement extended the gathering beyond the courts, as moments from the evening were shared through online content.

The Pickleball Rave also served as a pre-game event for JCI Kuching’s Taste of Borneo 2.0 Coffee Rave, carrying its spirit of connection from the court into the wider community.

Taste of Borneo 2.0 will continue at the MBKS Community Hall with a Food Bazaar on Sept 14 and 15, followed by the main Coffee Rave featuring coffee, food, music and entertainment on Sept 16.

For one evening, however, the build-up began not over cups of coffee, but across the pickleball net.

Organisers and participants gather on the court during the rave.
