KUCHING: Civil servants have been urged to participate in the International Knowledge Conference (IKC) 2026 to enhance professional development.
Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah said IKC 2026 would equip civil servants with practical competencies for future-ready governance, trusted data management and digital service delivery.
“Civil servants process state and public data every day, making them key drivers of the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint.
“To successfully drive the transformation towards a Smart government framework, our personnel need to strengthen their competencies in artificial intelligence (AI), digital inclusion and records governance so that they can translate high-tech infrastructure into trusted and proactive public value.
“Therefore, I directly urge all state government civil servants, ministry personnel and heads of departments to register and actively participate in the conference,” he said.
He said this during a press conference on IKC 2026 at here Monday (Aug 24).
In this regard, he also welcomed the participation of government agencies, researchers, librarians, archivists, museum and gallery professionals, policymakers, academics, higher education students and industry representatives.
“We want the people of Sarawak to become active creators and critical evaluators of digital information, rather than passive users of unregulated AI tools,” he said.
Elaborating, Sagah said IKC 2026 carries the theme ‘Trusted Knowledge in the Age of AI: The Evolving Role of Gallery, Library, Archive and Museum (GLAM) Institutions’.
The theme highlights the importance of ensuring trusted knowledge, ethical information practices and institutional credibility remain the foundation as AI transforms how information is created, shared and used.
“The event is also aligned with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) in strengthening the digital economy and shaping an innovative society through the responsible use of data and emerging technologies,” he said.
Sarawak will host experts and regional delegates from three key countries; Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines for IKC 2026, organised by Pustaka Negeri Sarawak.
The programme, scheduled to take place from Nov 23 to 26, here will feature 17 professional paper presentations, 100 research poster presentations and 20 advanced technology exhibitions showcasing innovative solutions.
