KUCHING: More than 88 per cent of graduates from technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes in the construction sector are securing employment, reflecting strong industry demand for skilled workers, says Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia chairman Datuk Yusuf Abd Wahab.
He said the high employability rate demonstrated that construction TVET programmes are aligned with the industry’s workforce requirements, particularly as Sarawak enters a period of accelerated development.
“The employability rate of construction TVET graduates is now above 88 per cent, proving that the training programmes being implemented are meeting the actual needs of the industry,” he said when officiating at the 12th Graduation Ceremony of the Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM) and CIDB Technologies Sarawak Region 2026 held here today.
Yusuf, who is also the Tanjong Manis MP, said that the continued development of TVET talent is essential to ensure a sufficient supply of highly skilled workers to support the implementation of major infrastructure projects and the growth of Sarawak’s construction industry.
“Sarawak is now in a phase of accelerated development with the implementation of various major infrastructure projects, which in turn requires more highly skilled workers to support the State’s development.”
Yusuf said CIDB Malaysia had trained 270,405 trainees through its Construction Skills Competency Training Programme (LKK) as of 2025, contributing to the development of a skilled workforce for the industry.
At the graduation ceremony, 150 graduates are recognised after successfully completing training in various construction-related skills.
He said the industry’s strong demand for skilled workers also provided TVET graduates with opportunities to build sustainable careers, both locally and internationally.
Two outstanding alumni, Tino Jenis and Wilson Lo, are also recognised with the Construction TVET Icon Award for their achievements in developing careers in the construction industry at both local and international levels.
The ceremony also saw the presentation of Construction Skills Competency Certificates (SKKP), letters of appointment to professional trainers and certificates of appreciation to industry strategic partners.
Meanwhile, a new Telecommunications Course was launched through a strategic collaboration between ABM Sarawak Region, Kejuruteraan Rasshin and CNERGY.
The course is aimed at supporting the development of Sarawak’s digital infrastructure and expanding opportunities for skilled workers in the telecommunications sector.
