KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Stakan Unity Carnival, scheduled to take place from Aug 26 to 30, has been postponed amid worsening haze and rising Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in Sarawak, particularly in Kota Samarahan.

Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) said the decision was made as a precautionary measure to safeguard the health, safety and wellbeing of the public.

MPKS said the postponement covers all activities and programmes originally planned throughout the five-day carnival.

“The decision to postpone the carnival was made after taking into account the worsening haze conditions and increasing Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in Sarawak, particularly in Kota Samarahan,” it said in a statement.

The council said the move was intended to protect visitors, participants, traders, staff and all parties involved in the event.
A new date for the Stakan Unity Carnival will be announced later through MPKS’ official media channels.

MPKS also expressed appreciation for the public’s attention, cooperation and understanding, while apologising for any inconvenience caused by the postponement.
