KUCHING: The 8th edition of the Layar Cycling Carnival (LCC) 2026, that was scheduled for August 28 to 30, has been postponed until further notice due to the current haze situation and unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings.
The Sarawak Cycling Association (SCA) said the decision was made following the announcement by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) regarding the prevailing haze situation and air quality.
“SCA fully supports the organising committee’s responsible decision to postpone the event under the present circumstances.
“While we know many riders have been looking forward to the event, the health and safety of our athletes, officials, volunteers and supporters must come first”, SCA said in a statement recently.
A new date will be announced by the organising committee once air quality conditions improve and it is safe for outdoor sporting activities to resume.
SCA also urged cyclists and members of the public to stay safe, monitor the latest air quality updates, and adjust their outdoor training accordingly, adding that SCA looked forward to seeing the Layar Cycling Carnival return when conditions permit.
