MIRI: Police-community cooperation in Batu Niah is being strengthened through greater engagement and dialogue as police here step up efforts to prevent crime and address emerging security concerns at grassroots level.
The initiative was highlighted during an outreach programme on community policing held at Batu Niah police station on Thursday (Aug 27), bringing together senior police officers, community leaders and representatives from plantations in the area.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said closer engagement with local communities was important in strengthening public awareness, preventing crime and ensuring that security concerns could be addressed more effectively.
The two-hour programme from 8am to 10am also provided an avenue for police to engage directly with community leaders and gather feedback on issues affecting residents and workers in the Batu Niah area.
Among those attending were deputy district police chief Supt Mohd Syafiq Jinuin Abdullah, senior police officers, station chiefs and members of the force, as well as pemanca, penghulu, community leaders and representatives from plantations in Batu Niah.
The outreach is part of PDRM’s broader community policing approach, which places emphasis not only on enforcement but also on prevention, public awareness and closer cooperation with communities.
The programme concluded with a group photograph and informal interaction between police personnel and community representatives.
The initiative reinforces the long-standing PDRM principle: “Polis dan Masyarakat Berpisah Tiada” (Police and the Community Are Inseparable).
