KUCHING: Sarawak Amateur Boxing Association’s (SABA) Deputy President, Datuk Johnny Ting Su King, is open to taking over the association’s top leadership post following the recent passing of its president, the late Datuk Dr Rahman Lariwoo.
Johnny said he had no objection to assuming the presidency if entrusted with the responsibility and given the mandate by the association’s executive committee.
“For me, there is no problem in taking over the leadership of SABA. Everything depends on the majority decision and mandate from the other Exco members,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
He said SABA would convene an exco meeting in the near future to discuss matters related to the association’s leadership.
Johnny said he was prepared to shoulder the responsibility as he wanted to continue the legacy of excellence built by the late Rahman during his long tenure at the helm of SABA.
“Many achievements and developments in boxing in Sarawak were recorded during the late president’s tenure.
“Therefore, this needs to be continued to ensure the development of boxing in Sarawak remains on the right track,” he said.
Johnny added that SABA still had numerous programmes in the pipeline which had yet to be implemented, including both domestic and international-level initiatives covering various aspects of the sport.
“Every year, several programmes and championships, not only at the domestic level but also at the international level, are organised.
“They have received very encouraging support and response,” he said.
He also highlighted SABA’s involvement in the Malaysia Games (SUKMA), noting that the boxing squad had consistently been among the teams contributing medals to the Sarawak contingent.
