ASAJAYA: More than 70 entrepreneurs are turning Pesta Asajaya 2026 into a platform to promote their businesses and explore new economic opportunities as the annual celebration expands this year.
Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said the entrepreneurs represented three main categories — clothing and accessories, food products, and small and medium enterprises.
She said the participation was not limited to entrepreneurs from Asajaya but also included those from surrounding areas, including Sadong Jaya.
“The response from our entrepreneurs has been very encouraging.
“The programme is not only aimed at strengthening the unity of the Asajaya community and surrounding areas, but also at creating a platform for socioeconomic opportunities, particularly for entrepreneurs,” she said after officiating at the event at Asajaya Sports Complex here last night (Aug 28).
Held from Aug 28 to 30, the festival is organised through a collaboration between the Asajaya District Office and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, with this year’s edition being held on a larger scale than previous celebrations.
Held in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Samarahan Division, the three-day festival features a range of activities, including the Asajaya Kitchen Bazaar, agency exhibition booths, clothing and accessories stalls, Asajaya Motor Showcase and Asajaya Idol.
The programme also includes contemporary dance, cooking, colouring and traditional food-wrapping competitions, as well as the Konsert Rakyat Pesta Asajaya, fishing, futsal, silat and archery competitions.
Rubiah said the festival also served as a platform to inform residents about the development taking place in Asajaya and the progress that had transformed the area’s socioeconomic landscape over the years.
The Kota Samarahan MP said development exhibitions by government agencies would allow residents to better understand ongoing initiatives and future plans for the area.
“Development does not stop today and, insya-Allah, there are many more plans by the government to further improve the well-being of the people and develop the Asajaya area,” she said.
Rubiah added that the festival also provided an opportunity to strengthen ties between leaders and the community.
The celebration will conclude on Sunday with the Pesta Asajaya closing ceremony and the Ambang Merdeka “Dekat di Hati” concert featuring the Sarawak State Symphony Orchestra (SONS).
