KUALA LUMPUR: The AI for the People programme, which is open to Malaysians aged between 18 and 30 with a three-month free subscription, provides opportunities for youth to deepen their digital skills.
For private sector employee Nurul Farhanah Abd Wahab, 28, the facility could help reduce expenses for youth who are most likely to use artificial intelligence (AI) technology today.
“Previously, if we wanted to use AI applications, we had to pay for them, and even then, access was limited.
“When Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced free AI subscriptions for young people, this is a benefit for us, especially those who need to multitask and work quickly,” she told Bernama.
Twenty-six-year-old civil servant N. Kuvineshwaren concurred, saying the opportunity was very meaningful for young people to explore AI technology in general.
“This free three-month subscription not only gives us access to premium tools, but also encourages us to improve our digital skills in preparation for our future careers,” he said.
Perak Student Secretariat’s Mehamad Ezanie Mehamad Noor viewed the announcement as a very good initiative for Malaysian youth.
Mehamad Ezanie, who is also the Bukit Gantang Youth chairman, said that in a world increasingly driven by technology and AI, digital skills were no longer an option but a necessity.
“This free learning opportunity gives 100,000 youths the space to become familiar with, learn and use AI more confidently.
“Most importantly, we hope such programmes will not merely impart knowledge, but can be translated into employment and entrepreneurship opportunities as well as increased income for young people. This is the time for youth not only to become technology users, but also creators and drivers of the country’s digital economy,” he said.
Anwar, when delivering his 2026 National Day Address yesterday, announced six immediate initiatives for the people, including those related to AI, which will come into effect tomorrow.
The AI for the People programme, the third initiative, is open to Malaysians aged between 18 and 30, with the 100,000 participants who successfully complete and pass all the designated course modules will enjoy a free three-month subscription to various selected AI applications and software, including IlmuChat, Gemini Enterprise, Wonderclip and MuleRun. – BERNAMA
