KUCHING: Defending champions Sarawak have arrived in Selangor ahead of the 2026 Para Malaysian Games (Para SUKMA), with the contingent now entering the final phase of preparations before competition begins on Sept 5.
The Sarawak contingent landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 today before making their way to Shah Alam, where the Games will be held from Sept 5 to 10.
Sarawak heads into the Games as the defending overall champions after topping the medal standings at Para SUKMA 2024 with 82 gold, 52 silver and 74 bronze medals, finishing 20 gold medals ahead of runners-up Sabah.
A total of 383 members make up the contingent, comprising 172 athletes, 126 officials and 85 support personnel, including four medical officers.
This year’s Para SUKMA will feature 369 medal events across 10 sports — athletics, swimming, badminton, table tennis, ten-pin bowling, lawn bowls, archery, chess, boccia and powerlifting.
With the Games still days away, the contingent will use the remaining time to settle in and complete its preparations before beginning the defence of the overall title won two years ago.
