KUCHING: A cooking competition held in Batu Kawa on Aug 31 fostered community ties when people came together to whip up dishes from traditional recipes.
Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said every recipe and dish had its own story, reflecting the culture, traditions and identity of families and communities.
“Through programmes like this, we can not only showcase cooking creativity and talent, but also share traditional recipes and pass on our values and traditions to the younger generation.
“Food brings us together. Competitions like this give residents the opportunity to gather, get to know one another, exchange ideas and strengthen ties among neighbours,” he said during the closing and prize-giving ceremony of the competition at Kampung Rantau Panjang here.
Also, present were Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai, representing Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, and Kuching Division District Officer Zaidi Sharkawi.
Ahmad also expressed his appreciation to Kampung Rantau Panjang community leader KK Putit Omar, the JKKK members, organising committee, participants, volunteers, contributors and residents for making the programme a success.
He congratulated the winners and reminded participants that winning was not the only measure of success for a community programme.
“To those who succeeded, congratulations. To those who have yet to win, do not be disappointed. What matters most is participation, the spirit of cooperation and the joy we share together.”
He hoped more community programmes would be held in the future to provide opportunities for residents of all ages to interact and strengthen the spirit of Segulai Sejalai.
“God willing, as long as we continue to work together and uphold the spirit of family, Kampung Rantau Panjang will continue to progress and our community will remain strong,” he said.
