SIBU: The Sarawak State Library (Pustaka) Sibu will transform into a vibrant playground of stories, creativity and technology as the Sarawak Children’s Arts & Literature Festival Programme 2026 takes centre stage on September 5 and 6.
Running from 9:00 am to 5:0-0 pm on both days, the two-day festival, themed ‘Pixel Park Adventure’, is designed to bring children beyond the conventional boundaries of reading and into a more interactive world where books, technology, art and imagination converge.
The programme will be officially launched on September 5 by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek.
A statement from Pustaka Sibu on Thursday (Sept 3) stated that the festival is open to children of all ages and features a broad range of activities aimed at nurturing literacy, creativity, confidence and communication skills in a fun and engaging environment.
Rather than positioning the library merely as a place for books, the festival seeks to present it as a dynamic learning space where children can explore new ideas, discover technology and express themselves through different forms of creative participation.
Among the key objectives of the programme are to encourage children to become library members, cultivate a stronger reading culture among the younger generation and expose them to knowledge-based activities and emerging technology.
The festival also places emphasis on developing children’s soft skills, particularly self-confidence and communication, through interactive sessions involving storytelling, performances and creative activities.
Visitors will be able to explore a series of specially curated spaces throughout the festival, each offering a different experience.
These include Story Space, Market Space, Performance Space, Gastro Space, Artistic Space, MyHero Space, Lestari Space, Fauna Space, Game Space, Writer Space and Reading Seeds Space.
From storytelling and artistic expression to games, performances and literary activities, the spaces are designed to encourage children to learn by doing, interacting and exploring at their own pace.
The diverse programme also provides families with an opportunity to spend meaningful time together while introducing children to the library environment in a way that is both educational and entertaining.
“The public are invited to attend and support efforts to strengthen literacy, creativity and lifelong learning among children in Sarawak,” the statement added.
