KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) has ordered all construction works under its projects in areas affected by the haze emergency to stop immediately.
PWD Sarawak said the suspension would remain in force for the duration of the emergency declaration.
The department said the measure was taken as a safety precaution to protect the health and wellbeing of workers and other personnel involved at construction sites.
It called on contractors, consultants and other relevant parties to comply with the directive throughout the emergency period.
PWD Sarawak said the cooperation of all parties was appreciated, stressing that safety remained its top priority.
The directive follows Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim’s consent to the declaration of a state of emergency on Friday (Sept. 4) throughout Serian Division after worsening haze threatened public health and safety.
