PADAWAN: Two motorcyclists were arrested for allegedly performing ‘Superman’ stunts on public roads during a late-night road safety operation here.
Both men were detained separately at the Kopodim and Telaga Air traffic lights after they were spotted allegedly riding in the dangerous position, with their bodies stretched out over their motorcycles.
Both suspects and their motorcycles were taken to the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division for further investigation.
Padawan police said the riders are being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
A first offence under the section carries a fine of between RM5,000 and RM15,000, imprisonment of up to five years and possible disqualification from holding a driving licence.
For a second or subsequent offence, offenders face a fine of between RM10,000 and RM20,000 and imprisonment of up to 10 years.
Codenamed ‘Ops Motosikal’, the operation was conducted from 11 pm on Saturday (Sept 5) to 4 am early this morning, targeting illegal racing and dangerous riding activities along Jalan FAC Matang.
Police inspected six motorcycles and six male riders during the operation, issuing seven summonses for various offences, including riding without a valid licence, failing to have rear-view mirrors, unauthorised structural modifications, modified exhaust systems and improperly fitted licence plates.
Following this, police urged parents to keep a close eye on their children’s activities and social circles, particularly if they are involved in motorcycle riding.
They are reminded that what may be seen as harmless fun could have serious, even life-changing, consequences if dangerous riding leads to an accident.
