SELANGOR: Rusdianto Rusmadi proved age has not slowed him down after powering to gold and a new Games record on the opening day of the Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 swimming competition today.
The 33-year-old Kuching-born swimmer produced a dominant display at the Selangor Aquatic Centre to win the men’s 400m freestyle (S8) in 5:20.93, setting a new Games record in the process.
The victory was made even sweeter for Rusdianto as the event is one of his favourite disciplines.
“I am very happy to have won gold for Sarawak today.
“What makes it even sweeter for me is setting a new Games record in this event,” the national swimmer told reporters after the medal presentation ceremony.
Rusdianto said the achievement had given him an encouraging boost as he prepares for the rest of his campaign.
He is scheduled to compete in six events at the Games, leaving five more opportunities to add to his medal haul.
The seasoned swimmer will now look to carry the momentum from his record-breaking performance into his remaining events as he targets further success for Sarawak.
His opening-day triumph underlined his experience and consistency as he continues to compete at the highest level of para swimming.
