SELANGOR: Bibiana Ahmad added another gold medal to her Para Games collection while rewriting the national record with an 86kg lift in the women’s under-61kg lightweight category at Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 today (Sept 7).
The 38-year-old Sarawak lifter delivered the record-breaking effort despite the added challenge of making the lightweight category, which required her to bring down her body weight ahead of competition.
Bibiana said patience was key throughout her preparations, particularly as she and her team worked to bring her weight down for the competition.
“I had to be patient because I struggled to bring down my weight,” she told reporters at the Selangor International Trade Centre (SITC) today (Sept 7).
She said the achievement was the result of teamwork involving her coach, manager and the rest of the Sarawak squad.
“For us, the important thing is to work together with the coach and manager. We just stayed relaxed and focused,” she said.
The gold carried added significance for Bibiana, who admitted that this could be her final appearance at the Para Games.
Meanwhile, Sarawak also picked up a bronze through Nurul Rabiatul Adawiyah Bakri, who lifted 56kg in her event.
