KUCHING: Young pickleball players aged seven to 12 honed their skills during a three-day holiday camp at Boulevard Shopping Mall here.
According to a statement, head coach Awangku said the Junior Pickleball Holiday Camp placed equal emphasis on developing playing skills and building character.
“We wanted this camp to be more than just hitting balls because it is also about discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship.
“Seeing these children improve in just three days is what makes it all worthwhile.”
The camp introduced the children to the fundamentals of the sport through hands-on training, skill challenges, mini-tournaments and mixed doubles matches.
Among the techniques covered were speed dinking, footwork, serve placement, third-shot drops and court communication.
The children later put what they had learned into practice during the camp’s concluding tournament.
Daywalker Junior Academy founder Sally Bong said the programme marked the academy’s second junior pickleball camp in Kuching.
“This camp has encouraged the children to remain active during the school holidays while developing good sportsmanship.”
