KUCHING: Medical libraries across Asia must work together to ensure reliable health information reaches underserved communities, says Asia Medical Library Seminar (AMLiS) 2026 chairperson Norazlina Abdul Rahman.
She said significant disparities in access to trustworthy health information remained across the region, limiting people’s ability to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
“Medical libraries have a critical responsibility to ensure that trustworthy knowledge reaches all segments of society,” she said when speaking at the seminar held at the Borneo Cultures Museum here yesterday (Sept 8).
Norazlina said closer partnerships between institutions could improve resource sharing, knowledge exchange and equitable access to medical information.
She added that regional cooperation was increasingly important as healthcare and information environments continued to evolve.
“Through stronger partnerships and networking among institutions, we can work collectively towards improving access to reliable health information for all,” she said.
Norazlina said the seminar provided a platform for medical librarians, health information professionals and researchers from across Asia to exchange perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing the profession.
She added that libraries must invest in professional development, embrace innovation and build resilient networks to respond effectively to emerging healthcare challenges.
