KUCHING: Air quality showed improvement in several parts of Sarawak as of 6pm yesterday (Sept 8), although five areas remained in the very unhealthy category, although it rained in some parts of Kuching.
Lundu recorded the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 298, followed by Kuching at 242, Serian at 239, Samarahan at 219 and Sri Aman at 215.
Another 10 locations were in the unhealthy category, namely Tebedu at 198, Sarikei at 184, Mukah at 182, Kanowit and Betong at 179 each, and Samalaju at 178.
ILP Miri recorded 174, followed by Bintulu at 167, Miri at 164 and Sibu at 163.
Meanwhile, Kapit and Lawas recorded moderate readings of 97 each, followed by Limbang at 80 and Bario at 52.
No reading was available for Lubok Antu as of 6pm.
The latest data also showed air quality easing in several areas towards the evening, with no significant increase recorded across the monitoring stations.
The readings were based on data from the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) and the Department of Environment’s (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
Under the API classification, readings of zero to 50 are considered good, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and above 300 hazardous.
