SELANGOR: Galang Jabai was all smiles after powering to gold in the men’s 50m butterfly S6/S7 at Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 today (Sept 9), admitting he was “very satisfied” with his performance.

The Sarawak swimmer clocked 38.62 seconds to finish ahead of Kedah’s Muhammad Syafiq, who took silver in 39.59s, while Federal Territories’s Kelvin On Kai Bin settled for bronze in 46.02s.

Galang said the victory was particularly satisfying after the hard work he had put in leading up to the Games.

“I feel happy after achieving this. I don’t even know whose record it was, but I am proud of what I achieved today,” he told reporters at the Selangor Aquatics Centre.

He then teamed up with Fraidden Dawan, Rusdianto Rusmadi and Mully Andriano to complete his golden double for the day, helping Sarawak win the men’s 4x100m freestyle 34-point relay in 5:01.09.

Sarawak finished comfortably ahead of Kedah, who took silver in 5:25.00, while Sabah claimed bronze in 5:25.87.

The two golds added to Galang’s earlier victory in the 4x100m medley relay, giving him three gold medals at the Games.

The haul also made for a fitting farewell for Galang, who is competing at his final Para SUKMA after years of representing Sarawak.

After years of representing Sarawak at the Games, the swimmer was grateful to bow out on a high alongside his teammates.

He also expressed his appreciation to his family, friends, coaches and everyone who had supported him throughout his journey.

“I want to thank my family, my friends and my boss, and everyone who has helped me all this while,” he said.

Galang also used the occasion to encourage the younger generation to step forward and showcase their abilities.

“To the younger generation, don’t be shy to show your talent. Don’t be afraid or hesitant,” he said.
