SELANGOR: A winning time of 5:01.09 propelled Sarawak to gold in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay on Day Three of the Para SUKMA swimming competition at Selangor Aquatic Centre today (Sept 9).
The quartet of Fraidden Dawan, Galang Jabai, Mully Andriano and Rusdianto Rusmadi finished well clear of Kedah, who took silver in 5:25.00, while Sabah settled for bronze in 5:25.87.
The relay triumph was part of a productive day for Sarawak, who collected five golds and two bronze medals from the pool.
Fraidden was the biggest contributor, winning the men’s 100m freestyle S10 in 1:09.67 before adding another gold in the 100m backstroke S10 in 1:20.41.
Rusdianto also struck gold in the men’s 50m freestyle S8, clocking 29.58 seconds, while Galang claimed the 50m butterfly S6/S7 title in 38.62s.
The two remaining bronze medals came from Ng Jia Tak, who clocked 1:18.16 in the men’s 100m freestyle S9, and Julius Jaranding, who finished the men’s 50m freestyle S12 in 32.67s.
The five-gold haul further underlined Sarawak’s strength in the pool as the swimming competition entered its third day.
For Galang and Fraidden, the day was particularly memorable as both are competing at their final Para SUKMA.
Galang completed a golden hat-trick with his two individual and relay victories, while Fraidden added to his impressive medal haul in what is also his farewell Games.
With more events still to come, Sarawak’s swimmers will look to carry their momentum into the final stages of the competition.
