KUCHING: A 36-year-old general worker at a primary school was ordered to enter into a RM1,000 bond for good behaviour by the Magistrates’ Court here today (Sept 9) after admitting to assaulting a pupil.
Mohammad Saifulniza Effendy pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to the pupil by slapping his cheek and strangling him.
Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali ordered the accused to enter into the bond, which was not deposited and did not require a surety.
The accused was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, the incident occurred on February 9 at about 10am outside of a classroom at the school in Jalan Sultan Tengah here.
The victim’s father lodged a police report after learning that his son had allegedly been assaulted by the accused.
The incident stemmed from the accused’s dissatisfaction with the victim, who had allegedly asked his son for money.
Investigations found that the accused had slapped the victim on the left cheek and strangled him during the incident.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.
