MIRI: Firefighters have brought under control a blaze that destroyed about 70 per cent of a two-storey permanent house in Taman Jelita 10, here on Wednesday morning.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the incident was reported at 10.41 am at Lot 8595, Lorong Pahlawan 1C.
A team from the Miri Sentral Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 10.54 am and found the house extensively damaged by fire.
The operation was declared under control at 11.15 am and ended at 12.30 pm. Firefighters returned to the station at 12.40 pm.
According to the operation commander, a size-up using the RECEO concept found that no casualties were involved.
Firefighters deployed one initial hose line and two 200-foot hose lines with two nozzles, drawing water from a nearby fire hydrant.
One hose line was used for offensive firefighting while another was deployed defensively to contain the blaze and prevent further spread.
The department said firefighters remained at the scene until the fire was completely extinguished and there was no indication of a possible re-ignition.
A total of 10 firefighters from Miri Sentral and Lutong fire stations took part in the operation, supported by police, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and Sarawak Energy contractors.
The department said Sarawak Energy personnel who inspected the electrical supply found what they described as an illegal connection at the property’s main electricity meter.
The cause of the fire has not been officially established pending further investigation.
The house was reportedly occupied by a family of five. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
