LAWAS: The new Lawas Hospital is set to expand access while improving the capacity and quality of healthcare services for residents of Lawas and surrounding areas through more comprehensive and modern facilities.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the hospital is designed with modernity, functionality, practicality and safety in mind to provide a more comfortable environment for patients and staff.
“The new hospital has modern features, but what is important is its function. Secondly, practicality, and thirdly, safety elements have also been taken into consideration,” he said during an inspection of the project site recently to review its latest progress and ensure implementation is proceeding smoothly according to plan.
Awang Tengah, who is also Bukit Sari assemblyman, said attention is also given to aesthetics and the surrounding environment through the provision of open spaces and landscaping to enhance comfort for patients, staff and visitors.
The hospital will also feature a dialysis unit with 17 stations, enabling patients to receive treatment more conveniently and comfortably without having to seek care outside the district.
The more comprehensive facilities are expected to improve residents’ access to healthcare services while reducing the need to travel outside Lawas for treatment.
Meanwhile, Awang Tengah said the project is expected to be handed over to the Ministry of Works and Ministry of Health on Sept 14.
He also stressed that sufficient doctors and healthcare personnel must be provided to ensure the new hospital’s facilities could be fully utilised.
According to him, the shortage of healthcare personnel is not unique to Lawas but remained a challenge across Sarawak that required continuous attention.
The new hospital is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery in Lawas while contributing to improved wellbeing and quality of life for the local community.
