MUKAH: A foreign oil palm worker was arrested after he tried to keep more than 10g of methamphetamine under wraps in a cigarette box during a raid here Tuesday (Sept 8).
The 35-year-old man was arrested by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) at around 12.30pm in front of a hut at an oil palm plantation along Jalan Mukah-Selangau.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said a search of his trouser pocket led police to a box of ‘A Satu Mild’ cigarettes.
However instead of just cigarettes, officers found 10 straw tubes and a plastic packet containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine inside the box.
“The suspected drugs had an estimated gross weight of 10.83g valued at about RM540.
“Both the suspect and seized drugs were taken to the district police headquarters (IPD) for further investigation,” he said.
A preliminary urine test also returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The suspect has been remanded until Sept 11 to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Rizal said a separate investigation was opened under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 after the suspect was found without valid travel documents.
