SELANGOR: Sarawak will review incentives for its Para SUKMA 2026 medallists before submitting the proposal to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for consideration.
Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the review would be based on the number of gold, silver and bronze medals won by the Sarawak contingent.
She said the incentive structure used for Para SUKMA 2024 would serve as the basis for the calculation before the proposal was submitted to the Premier.
“Based on what we have done previously, we will calculate it according to the gold, silver and bronze medals.
“We will determine the amount based on the incentives used in 2024, present it to the Premier and, if the Premier agrees, only then will we make an announcement,” she told reporters after the Sarawak Contingent Gala Dinner last night (Sept 10).
Fatimah said the amount and form of the incentives could not yet be announced as the proposal still needed to go through the consideration process.
She also stressed that incentives for SUKMA and Para SUKMA should be implemented in tandem, as both Games played important roles in the state’s sports development agenda.
“We also need to look at SUKMA because whenever we develop it, we usually develop both together.
“It cannot be SUKMA alone, and it cannot be Para SUKMA alone either. Both together, God willing,” she said.
Fatimah said continued commitment to both Games would help Sarawak build a stronger sports ecosystem while providing athletes with opportunities to achieve higher levels of performance.
