BINTULU: One person was killed while five others suffered varying injuries following a road accident involving two long lorries along the Pan Borneo Highway between Bintulu and Miri today.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency distress call regarding the crash at 2.33 pm.

Firefighters from Batu Niah fire station were dispatched to the scene, located about 19 kilometres away.

“Upon arrival, the team found a victim trapped inside one of the vehicles, suffering from severe head and body injuries as well as fractures.

“The victim was unconscious and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel,” it said.

Five other victims involved in the collision sustained varying degrees of injuries. One victim suffered minor facial and mouth injuries, another sustained head wounds, one experienced swelling on his left hand while another escaped unhurt.

Meanwhile, one injured victim had already been extricated and transported to the hospital by an ambulance prior to the team’s arrival.

Firefighters utilised a stretcher to carefully extricate the trapped victim from the wreckage. The deceased was subsequently handed over to the police for further procedures.

After ensuring the area was completely clear and safe, the operation concluded at 4.27 pm, and the team returned to the station.
