KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will take Sarawak’s clean energy ambitions to the global stage when he addresses Gastech 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, during a two-day working visit from Sept 13 to 14.
The visit centres on his participation in the prestigious Ministerial Panels and Roundtables at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC), where world leaders and energy policymakers will discuss the future of global energy security and decarbonisation.
Abang Johari is scheduled to arrive in Bangkok on Sept 13, before attending a dinner and briefing with the Sarawak delegation at 8pm.
The following morning, before proceeding to the Gastech venue, he will hold a courtesy meeting with the Group Global chief executive officer (CEO) and founder of Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited at The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok, underscoring efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships with international industry players.
On the same day, the Premier will participate in a closed-door Ministerial Roundtable alongside ministers and senior energy leaders from around the world.
He will later deliver an Energy Talk titled Growth, Abundance and the Courage to Decarbonise, outlining Sarawak’s approach to balancing economic growth with low-carbon development.
The programme also includes a fireside chat, followed by a press conference before his departure for Kuching later that evening.
Gastech 2026, now in its 54th edition, is the world’s leading exhibition and conference for natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), hydrogen, climate technologies and artificial intelligence in energy.
Held from Sept 14 to 17, the event is expected to attract more than 50,000 participants from 150 countries, including ministers, energy experts and representatives of leading global organisations.
Among its highlights are high-level ministerial dialogues, policy roundtables, the launch of the AI-focused AixEnergy platform, and exhibitions featuring innovations from over 1,000 companies in LNG, hydrogen and carbon-reduction technologies.
