KAPIT: SK Ulu Yong has received a RM10,000 grant, with further assistance pledged to help address its ongoing water supply problems.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Laws and Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit anak Unyat announced the allocation when officiating the Program JIWA@Hari Kebangsaan Hari Malaysia (HKHM) 2026 at the school recently.
He also pledged to assist the school in purchasing a water pump to help resolve its water woes.
Jamit, who is also Bukit Goram assemblyman, said civic awareness programmes should be brought directly to rural communities and educational institutions to strengthen patriotism and national unity.
He commended the participation of students, parents, Parent Teacher Association members and community leaders, describing it as a reflection of the community’s shared commitment to national cohesion.
“The active involvement of our local community, bringing together students, parents and leaders from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, is a true testament to our loyalty and deep love for Malaysia,” he said.
Jamit also called on members of the public, business premises, schools and government offices to support the “1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang” campaign in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
He said flying the Jalur Gemilang represented pride in a sovereign, peaceful and united nation.
On this year’s HKHM theme, “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”, Jamit said it reflected the Government’s commitment to inclusive development.
He said progress should not be measured solely through economic indicators, but also through improvements in quality of life and equitable opportunities for all citizens.
“This is important to ensure that no community is left behind in Sarawak’s ongoing development agenda,” he said.
The programme, organised by the Information Department of Malaysia (JAPEN) in collaboration with SK Ulu Yong, aims to foster patriotism, national pride and unity among local communities, particularly through the nationwide display of the Jalur Gemilang.
Jamit also expressed appreciation to JAPEN Sarawak, SK Ulu Yong, community heads and government agencies for their cooperation in organising the programme.
