JOHOR BAHRU: A total of 4,646 domestic violence cases were recorded nationwide from January to July this year, said Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Lim Hui Ying.
She said this situation served as an important reminder that prevention efforts, early intervention and access to assistance channels must be continuously strengthened through initiatives by the Women’s Development Department (JPW).
According to her, Johor recorded 823 cases, compared with 518 cases reported during the same period in 2025.
“Domestic violence does not only involve physical abuse, but can also take the form of emotional, psychological, sexual and financial abuse, including controlling a person’s movements and relationships, which now also extends into the digital space.
“It often begins with behaviour that is perceived as normal, such as excessive control, threats or insults. Therefore, society needs to be alert to the early warning signs before the situation becomes more serious,” she said.
She said this when officiating the Aku Wanita @ Domestic Violence (KRT) Well-being Advocacy Programme and the 2026 Johor PRISMAnita Open Day organised by JPW in Seri Alam here today.
In an effort to ensure women have faster and more systematic access to assistance, the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development has also provided PRISMAnita, which stands for Referral, Intervention, Support, Information and Advocacy for Women.
“PRISMAnita was launched by the Prime Minister on March 10 this year to connect women with government services and relevant agencies in a faster, more organised and customer-friendly manner.
“As of August, 117 clients had received services through PRISMAnita @ PPWN nationwide, while in Johor, this facility can be accessed through the Johor Women’s Development Office,” she said.
