KUALA LUMPUR: Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin has emerged as Malaysia’s first men’s singles shuttler to capture a BWF World Tour title this year after claiming the Vietnam Open crown today (Sept 13).
The independent shuttler produced an upset in Ho Chi Minh City, defeating Singapore’s top seed Jason Teh 21-16, 21-14 in the 45 minutes final to secure the biggest title of his career.
For the world No. 91, the triumph marked his maiden Super 100 title after twice falling just short in previous tournaments.
Aidil finished runner-up at the Indonesia Masters II in 2024 before again settling for second place at the Al Ain Masters in Abu Dhabi last year.
This time, however, the Malaysian made no mistake against world No. 33 Jason, completing the victory in straight games.
His breakthrough comes in a year when Malaysia’s more established men’s singles names have yet to capture a World Tour title.
Aidil’s victory earned him US$8,250 (RM33,580) in prize money, while Jason took home US$4,180 as runner-up.
More significantly, the Vietnam Open triumph gives Aidil a long-awaited breakthrough on the World Tour after his previous near misses and puts the 2026 season’s first Malaysian men’s singles title in his hands.
