KUALA LUMPUR: Netflix users in Malaysia will have to dig deeper into their pockets after the streaming platform raised subscription prices across all four plans, with its Premium tier now nearing RM70 a month.
A check of Netflix’s website showed that monthly increases range from RM1 to RM7, depending on the plan, while charges for additional members outside a subscriber’s household have also gone up.
The Mobile plan recorded the smallest increase, rising RM1 from RM18.90 to RM19.90 a month.
The Basic plan is now RM33.90, up RM4 from RM29.90, while the Standard plan has increased by RM6 from RM49.90 to RM55.90.
Premium subscribers face the largest increase, with the plan now costing RM69.90 a month – RM7 higher than its previous RM62.90 price.
At the new rate, a Premium subscription alone will cost RM838.80 over 12 months, compared with RM754.80 previously – an additional RM84 a year.
Netflix has also increased the cost of adding members who do not live in the same household as the account holder.
Standard subscribers can add one additional member for RM14.90 a month, up from RM13, while Premium subscribers can add up to two at the same RM14.90 rate per slot.
That means a Premium account with two additional members would now cost RM99.70 a month, or RM1,196.40 over a full year.
According to a notice sent by Netflix to customers, the adjustment is intended to support continued improvements to its service and the addition of new television series and films each week.
The latest increase raises the entry price across Netflix’s entire Malaysian subscription range, while pushing its highest-tier package closer to the RM70-a-month mark.
