PUTRAJAYA: The Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) has secured second place in the Better World Builder of the Year category at the Autodesk Innovation Awards 2026.
The recognition was awarded for the department’s implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching 2 (BCCK 2) project.
Sarawak PWD director Datuk Dr Cassidy Morris led the department’s delegation in receiving the recognition during the Malaysia BIM Day 2026 Appreciation Dinner here on Monday (Sept 14).
The event, held at Dewan Seri Siantan, Putrajaya Corporation, was organised in conjunction with Malaysia BIM Day 2026: Putrajaya Digital Built.
In a Facebook post, the department said the achievement reflected its continued adoption of BIM, digital technologies and integrated project delivery.
It said these technologies were being used to improve coordination, efficiency, productivity and quality throughout project implementation.
“The achievement reflects Sarawak PWD’s continuous efforts to strengthen the use of BIM, digital technologies and integrated project delivery in enhancing efficiency, coordination and sustainability throughout the project lifecycle,” it said.
The department said its adoption of BIM was also in line with the government’s move to expand the technology across development projects.
Under Treasury Circular PK 1.15, BIM usage is to be optimised for new government building and infrastructure projects with a ceiling cost of RM10 million and above beginning under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
The policy also covers the use of BIM for the management of government immovable assets and facilities.
Sarawak PWD said the approach supports the National Construction Policy 2030, which places emphasis on digitalisation, new technologies, productivity and competency development in the construction sector.
Malaysia BIM Day 2026 also featured BIM competitions conducted in collaboration with Autodesk, Glodon, Bentley Systems, PETRONAS and the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education.
The department said the recognition further strengthened its commitment to digital transformation and the delivery of smarter, more efficient and sustainable infrastructure in Sarawak.
