KUCHING: A 45-year-old man was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here today for attacking another man with a machete during a dispute over money from the sale of mangoes.
Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali handed down the sentence to Razali Roshidi, 45, after he pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
The accused was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, or a fine, or whipping, or any two of such punishments upon conviction.
The court heard that the incident occurred at about noon on Nov 20, 2025, at a house near Kampung Bintawa Hilir, Petra Jaya.
According to the facts of the case, Razali and another man went to the house to ask the victim’s wife about money from the sale of mangoes.
The victim, who was returning home after receiving a call from his wife, then confronted Razali over the matter.
Razali became agitated and attacked the victim with a machete.
The victim managed to wrest the weapon from him but suffered minor injuries to the left side of his neck and below his left knee.
The incident was witnessed by the victim’s wife.
The 46-year-old supervisor subsequently lodged a police report, prompting an investigation.
Police arrested Razali at the same house at about 3.10pm that day and later seized a machete with a black handle believed to have been used in the incident.
The victim’s injuries were subsequently confirmed by a medical officer.
The prosecution was represented by Inspector Siti Radhiah Abdul Rahman, while Razali was unrepresented.
