KUCHING: A RM1-billion large-scale solar power facility will be developed in Gedong following the signing of a 30-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
The agreement was signed between reNIKOLA Gedong Solar (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd (reNIKOLA Gedong) and Syarikat Sesco Berhad, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sarawak Energy Berhad.
Located in Gedong, Simunjan District, the facility will have a power generation capacity of 250 megawatts alternating current (MWac) and an installed capacity of up to 363 megawatts peak (MWp).
reNIKOLA Gedong is a subsidiary of renewable energy company reNIKOLA Holdings Sdn Bhd (reNIKOLA).
Punggor Wibawa Berhad and Gedong Solar Park Industry Sdn Bhd’s Executive Chairman, Datuk Posa Majais, said the project was expected to stimulate economic activity throughout its development and operational phases.
“This project is more than a significant investment; it is an opportunity to create lasting value for Sarawak and the local communities.
“Through the development and operation of the facility, we expect to generate economic activity through employment opportunities, local procurement, and the development of local capabilities throughout the project lifecycle,” he said in a statement today.
Posa said the developers would work closely with stakeholders to ensure the project delivered sustainable benefits to surrounding communities.
He added that the facility would expand Sarawak’s renewable energy capacity while supporting the state’s long-term efforts to develop a cleaner and more resilient energy system.
Meanwhile, reNIKOLA’s Managing Director, Boumhidi Adel, said the company appreciated the confidence placed in it through the partnership.
“We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to contribute to Sarawak’s sustainable energy aspirations and look forward to seeing this project bring meaningful and lasting benefits to the state and its people,” he said.
The project marks reNIKOLA’s entry into Sarawak’s renewable energy sector, and will form part of the company’s expanding renewable energy portfolio.
