KUCHING: Umno’s Najib Razak Solidarity Fund raised RM634,562.02 within its first three hours, after being launched to help former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak settle his RM50 million fine.
Party secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said many of the contributions were for RM10 and RM50.
“MasyaAllah! In the first three hours since the Najib Razak Solidarity Fund was launched, it has already reached RM634,562.02.
“Many contributed as little as RM10 and RM50,” he said in a social media post.
The latest figure marks a sharp increase from the RM165,645 collected within the first hour of the fundraiser.
Umno launched the fund yesterday after party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced an initiative to help Najib pay the RM50 million fine required under his conditional pardon.
The conditional pardon allows Najib to serve the remainder of his custodial sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of the fine and compliance with the conditions imposed.
Najib has been serving his sentence since August 2022 following his conviction in the SRC International case. His original 12-year prison term was subsequently reduced to six years, while his RM210 million fine was cut to RM50 million following an earlier Pardons Board decision in 2024.
