KUCHING: Four programmes highlighting Sarawak’s gastronomy, history and cultural heritage have been lined up for international delegates attending a major heritage gathering here next month.
The Sarawak Museum Department will hold the programmes in conjunction with the 22nd International Council on Monuments and Sites General Assembly and Scientific Symposium (ICOMOS) from Oct 17 to 24.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the gathering was expected to attract more than 1,500 heritage experts and policymakers from 110 countries.
“This provides an excellent platform to promote Malaysia’s cultural heritage,” he said at the department’s Appreciation Dinner at Pullman Hotel here on Sunday (Sept 20).
The programmes comprise Night at the Museum: Sarawak Authentic Gastronomy, Sarawak Museum Talk, Sarawak Museum Heritage Walk and tour guide services at heritage sites.
The activities will offer international delegates a closer look at the state’s cuisine, history, arts and cultural traditions.
The assembly, to be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), marks the first time the event is being hosted in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
“The programmes will showcase the uniqueness of our local cuisine, history, arts and culture to the international visitors coming to Sarawak,” Abdul Karim said.
